Overview

In this beginner-level ESL lesson, we will focus on personal preferences and how to express them in the first person. Students will learn to articulate their likes and dislikes, as well as ask others about theirs, encouraging meaningful conversations.

Our lesson plan provides a clear boardwork example to guide educators in teaching the target language. It also includes several low-resource activities that encourage students to discuss their preferences and interview their peers. To wrap up the session and reinforce their understanding of the topic, a classroom game idea is included.

Use of the board

The students learn to express their likes and dislikes and question others about theirs.

The board below is one suggestion on how you could present the target language for this lesson. You should modify it as you see fit.

Start off by eliciting the affirmative and negative for like and adding it to the board along with the L1 translation. After that, step through each of the constructions eliciting as much as possible either through the use of L1 or actions. Use the colour coded text to give you an idea of what you should try to elicit.
