Vocabulary and speaking
Overview
In this initial lesson on business, the focus will be on building vocabulary and enhancing speaking skills. Students will explore various advanced terms and concepts fundamental to the business world, such as branding, marketing, and its cultural impact.
The lesson plan includes a suggested boardwork activity to introduce the unit. Students will then participate in several collaborative speaking activities, where they will discuss different multinational companies. To wrap things up, we'll play a fun group game that helps reinforce some of the newly learned vocabulary.
Classroom activities
Use of the board
The students review vocabulary related to business.
Start by writing the statement success on the board. Then set a short time limit, and ask your students to write down as many business-related success factors as they can. If necessary, add a couple of examples to the board as a prompt, e.g. staff, leadership. Once the time limit is up, ask students to work in pairs, discussing their lists. If necessary, add some language to the board which students can use to express reasons, For example:
- The reason I thought of ___ is ___
- I think ___ is important because___
- I consider___ a 'factor' because ___
- We need to think about___ as ___
Monitor this stage, assisting with vocabulary and grammar as required. In the end, have the groups share their ideas and create a spider diagram using the best suggestions.
