Asking for things
Overview
When dining out, it's crucial to have the confidence to make clear requests and place orders. This lesson teaches students a simple question structure that can help them order with ease and become more confident communicators in a restaurant setting.
The lesson plan starts with a suggested whiteboard, demonstrating the one way to introduce the language being taught. Students will then participate in a couple of low-resource activities, such as a role-play set in a restaurant, which will allow them to practice asking for what they want in a contextual setting. The lesson concludes with a fun classroom game, which helps to reinforce the concepts and skills learned throughout the day.

Classroom activities
Use of the board
The students review a simple dialogue they can use to order food in a restaurant.
Start by telling the students that they are going to learn how to ask for things in English. Next, add the target language to the top of the board along with translations in L1. After that, explain that you will be creating a simple conversation between a customer and a waiter and that you need their help. Finally, create a dialogue by eliciting suggestions from the students.
Favourite restaurant
A speaking activity where students answer questions about their favourite foods.
Restaurant role play
Students pretend that they are at their favourite restaurant, ordering their favourite food.
Classroom games
Fetch
Students have to retrieve the correct object based on a request from the opposition.
