Overview

In this elementary-level ESL lesson plan, the students will learn how to use the how + adjective question construction to inquire about the properties of different things. By the end of this session, students will be able to ask questions like "How tall is the building?" or "How heavy is the box?".

The lesson plan contains a suggested boardwork example that shows one way to present the target language. It also includes a couple of low-resource ESL classroom activities where the students will participate in collaborative speaking and writing tasks. As usual, we finish with a fun idea for a game. This time, the students design paper aeroplanes for a class competition.

Use of the board

The students learn how to inquire about the properties of different things using the how + adjective question construction.

Start by drawing the images on the right on the right-hand side of the board. After that, use the grammar representation to explain to the class how this construction can be used to query measurements on a subject. Finally, work through each image with the group, eliciting the query and answer.
