Giving detailed descriptions
Overview
In this third upper-intermediate lesson on the topic of film, the emphasis will be on enhancing your students' ability to give detailed descriptions. This skill is particularly useful when creating engaging narratives and expressing opinions about movies with greater clarity and depth.
The lesson includes a boardwork activity where the students look at film-related idioms. Following this, students will engage in various low-resource classroom activities. These involve a review of the previous lesson's homework and crafting alternative endings for well-known movies. To wrap things up, students will play movie charades.
Classroom activities
Use of the board
Students have to come up with definitions for some film-related idioms.
This can be used as a warmer or modified into a game to wrap up the lesson. Start by dividing the class into groups of three or four, add the idioms to the board and give them time to prepare a definition. If playing as a game, award a point for the closest explanation.

Warmer activity: Homework review
The students talk about the reading task assigned during the previous lesson.

Discuss
Students will work in groups of three to discuss different opinions related to the film industry.

A happy ending
The students will work in groups to write an alternative ending to a popular movie.

Suggested homework
Students have to write a movie review.

Classroom games
Charades: Popular movies
Students mime well-known film titles while their teammates try to guess the correct answer.
