Describing everyday items (adjective order)

Exclusive
Time 60-90 min
Type Standard
Level Beginner

Overview

In this beginner-level (A1) lesson, students will learn how to describe everyday objects using multiple adjectives. They will focus on natural descriptive patterns, arranging adjectives by opinion, age, and colour to build clear, accurate descriptions of their belongings while expanding their baseline vocabulary for common adult essentials.

The lesson is based on a series of image-led tasks. After an initial vocabulary check, students work in pairs to analyze personal statements and deduce word-order patterns. They then apply these rules through controlled sentence-scrambling tasks, descriptive image writing, and a communicative guessing game. The lesson finishes with a personalized smartphone homework task.

Our standard lessons follow a consistent six-stage flow: warm-up, a presentation based on real content (video, text or images), a contextual language focus stage, controlled practice, a free practice session, and a final homework task.

Each lesson includes a printable student worksheet and teacher’s guide with answer keys. For digital classrooms, we provide an editable Google Slides e-lesson, that is also compatible with PowerPoint.
