Vocabulary and speaking
Overview
In this first advanced lesson in our unit on relationships, we will explore the different human connections in our lives, including personal, professional, and social. Students will discuss the dynamics and nuances associated with different kinds of relationships. The objective is to enhance their ability to articulate various aspects of relationships in English, broadening their conversational skills in this vital area of life.
The lesson plan begins with a suggested boardwork activity that offers one way to introduce the unit's theme. Students will then participate in several classroom activities, including a couple of collaborative speaking tasks. These will prompt discussion, reflection, and exchange of ideas on the topic of relationships. To wrap things up, we’ve included a fun and interactive classroom game where students have to rewrite some famous quotes about relationships.
Classroom activities
Use of the board
The students discuss the different types of human relationships they encounter their lives.
Start by eliciting examples of the different types of relationships that can occur in society and add them to the board. Six to eight should be enough. Next, split the students into pairs and ask them to discuss the importance of each type of relationship. At the end of their discussion, they should arrange the relationship types into a prioritised list, from the most important to the least.
When they have finished, have a short conversation with each pair about the choices they made.

Pair work interview
The students will interview each other about one of the relationship types discussed during the board work.

Married... with Children
Your students will have to discuss different statements on marriage that are based on studies carried out in the USA.

The professional
The students will share their thoughts and experiences with professional relationships.
