Extreme sports: Are they worth the risk?
Overview
In this conversation lesson, students will explore the world of extreme sports, discussing the risks, rewards, and psychological aspects of these activities. They will learn key vocabulary related to adventure sports and personal attributes (e.g., focused, determined, quick-thinking). Students will also engage in discussions about fear, risk-taking, and ethical dilemmas in extreme sports.
The lesson is based around images of extreme sports, which students will describe and analyse. Through structured and open-ended speaking activities, they will explore their personal attitudes toward extreme sports, and develop their ability to justify opinions. The lesson concludes with a homework task where students watch a video about Alex Honnold, the world’s most famous free solo climber, and answer comprehension and opinion-based questions.
